Target Population: Covering actual clients of female sex workers.
Geographical location/area coverage: Dhaka, Faridpur, Mymensing & Narayangonj districts of Dhaka division, Rajshahi, Bogra, Rangpur & Dinajpur districts of Rajshahi division and Khulna & Jessore districts of Khulna division of Bangladesh.
Goal: HIV/AIDS prevention among target population (Clients of Female Sex Workers).
Objectives:
o Identify and Document the characteristics of internal migrants & clients
of female sex workers
o Explore & establish need based service outlets which will be the first
service contact points for the target population
o Raising, strengthening and re-inforcing HIV/AIDS & STI prevention related
knowledge and skills of the target population to facilitate them in behavior
changes including responsible sexual behavior
o Make basic STI and HIV/AIDS services package available & accessible
o Establish formal referral linkages for the complicated STIs cases and for
Voluntary Counseling & Testing (VCT)
o Strengthen the established issue based and strategy focused advocacy &
networking process to enable the environment for the prevention of HIV/AIDS
for the target population
o Facilitate natural evolution of self-reliant groups from the targeted clients'
community (like “Satisfied Clients group” & "Community
Volunteers") and utilize them for the program & community benefit
Major
Strategy/Approach:
• Setting up of Community Service Centres (CSC) and implementing package
activities like Syndromic Management of STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections),
condom promotion and distribution, peer education, counseling, World AIDS Day
Observation and referral through those centres.
• Extension of services to the target community through Community Service
Outlets
• Recreation education through local cultural activities and video shows.
• Organize issue based training courses like, Syndromic Management, VCT
/ counseling, Gender and sexual Health for relevant project staff
• Local Level Advocacy through workshop / seminar / orientation.
Activities:
o Peer Education and Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) through one to one
& group discussion
o STI Syndromic Management with medicine supply
o Counseling support
o Condom Promotion & distribution
o Recreational facilities like, games & songs, at the centre
o Cultural events & video show at the community level
o Issue based training of staff & peer educators & community volunteers.
o Advocacy meetings / workshops.
