This project is a continuation of HASAB's counseling effort with a comprehensive
strategy for improving the health status of HIV infected and affected. Major
Strategies are raising HIV/AIDS awareness of target population and stakeholders;
creation of enabling environment through advocacy, voluntary counseling &
testing; nutritional support; treatment for Opportunistic infection & STI,
halfway home & recreational education and rehabilitation support through
vocational training & involvement in employment & income generating
activities.
2. HIV/AIDS Continuing Education & Communication

Being a specialized & unique organization on HIV/AIDS HASAB has been continuing
its capacity building effort through this "HIV/AIDS Continuing Education
& Communication program". People from different sectors like, Staff
& other people from NGOs, civil society, and government and non-government
organizations from any parts of Bangladesh as well as from any country of the
region are the target population of this program. Through this core component
HASAB intends to create an innovative and continuous learning environment for
the human being on HIV/AIDS and other relevant fields through organizational
sustainability by capitalization of its current human, financial and material
resources.

HIV/AIDS Prevention Project (HAPP) for Internal Migrants
is a project of Bangladesh Government where UNICEF has been selected for management
of the project. The goal of the project is to prevention of HIV/AIDS among the
internal migrants to minimize the risk, spread & impact of HIV/AIDS and
other STIs. Purpose is that the majority of internal migrants would be equipped
with necessary knowledge and skill to protect themselves from the risk and spread
and consequences of HIV/AIDS. The focus populations for this project is poor
class of internal migrants like, bus/truck drivers & helpers, rickshaw/van/push
cart pullers, boatmen/sailors, dock laborers, garment workers, and fish processing
workers, who are not under coverage of HIV/AIDS prevention program by other
agencies. Due to the lower socio-economic status, long detachment from families,
lack of social support & coping up capacity internal migrants are not only
vulnerable to HIV/AIDS but also bridge the infection from high risk groups to
general population, so, prevention of HIV/AIDS among the internal migrants is
very important. Strategies like, Community Service Center (CSC) and outreach
approach with a package service of peer education, STI Syndromic Management,
Counseling, HIV/AIDS Advocacy and networking has been followed in this project
for 140,000 internal migrants in 30 districts of said three divisions and the
project has been implemented through a partnership of three NGOs under the leadership
of HASAB.
4. PROMOTING RIGHTS OF THE EXTREME SOCIALLY EXCLUDED
PEOPLE, (PRESEP) &

Promoting Rights of Extreme Socially Excluded People (PRESEP)’
project aims in contributing to the realization of human rights and dignity
of life for selected marginalized communities like Female Commercial Sex Workers
of the brothel, hotel and street, Transgender/hijras, Ex-Injecting Drug Users
(IDUs), Male having Sex with Male (MSM) and People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLHA).
They are stigmatized and discriminated for their psychosexual behavior and activities,
which has got social disapproval in Bangladesh. This project works in partnership
with already formed self-help groups (SHGs) and with parent organization where
readily made SHG of the mentioned population is not found; the parent organization
however, would proactively form a SHG with the technical support and facilitation
of PRESEP, HASAB. In fact, this project encourages promotion of human rights,
mainstreaming marginalized groups by forming/promoting strategic allies’
for enabling environment, providing awareness for reduction of stigma associated
with HIV/AIDS amongst the vulnerable group. Special emphasis has been given
to ensure access to civic amenities and Capacity building of the SHGs in terms
of technical, managerial, communication, negotiation at different levels, decision
making and analytical skill development so that the population/groups can make
voices heard and come up demanding their rights.

GFATM Project on HIV/AIDS Prevention among Young People in Bangladesh
&

GFATM is a collaborative project of Ministry of Health
& Family Welfare (MOHFW) and Save the Children, USA on HIV and AIDS prevention
program for youth and adolescents in Bangladesh. The objectives of HASAB implementation
package 902 is to provide of HIV/AIDS Orientation, Training and Services to
the young people via Life Skills Education, Youth Friendly Health Services and
Accessing Condom for Youth. In piloting phase the project worked to design and
implemented Life Skills Education program in four division with 20 youth organizations
by developing 40 Master trainers, 260 peer educators and oriented 10,000 youths
on LSE, develop message for 10-14 years for secondary school curriculum, sensitize
gatekeepers and policy maker to support programs, established Youth Friendly
Health Services in 24 health facilities in Bangladesh, conduct study research
in strengthening condom marketing strategies in respect of culturally sensitive
ways.
